About the Department (Mathematics)


The PG department of Mathematics is devoted in teaching the subject of Mathematics to the undergraduate (B.A./B.Sc.) and postgraduate (M.Sc.Mathematics) students. The department aims to make the teaching of mathematics interesting with various innovative ways. The department always tries to develop logical and analytical reasoning among the students with the effective teaching of mathematics. The department promotes various activities such as Extension Lectures/Quiz Competitions/ Seminars/ Group discussions are arranged to enhance the understanding of the fundamental mathematical concepts. A variety of workshops are regularly arranged for the preparation of various competitive exams and overall development of the students.

In the present era, a lot of career opportunities are available for the students studying mathematics. The students are regularly guided and motivated to achieve success in professions like, Banking, Data analysts/scientists, Actuarial sciences, Academia & research, Govt. jobs etc. The students are also encouraged for research activities and to attend/present the papers in various National/International Conferences and workshops. As a result, a number of students are qualifying various scholarship tests, internship programs and CSIR-NET/JRF exams on regular basis. PG Department of Mathematics is leaving no stone unturned to promote this subject and providing every possible help to academically poor as well as talented students under the supervision of Head of Department, Mrs. Satinder Pal Kaur and the able guidance of worthy Principal, Dr. Tejinder Kaur Dhaliwal.

DBT ACTIVITY REPORT (2023-24)

Lecture series dedicated to National Mathematics Day sponsored by DBT, Govt of India under Star College Scheme on 28th January 2023. Resource person Dr. Gauree Shanker from Central University of Punjab, Bathinda gave students very informative knowledge about ancient and modern Indian Mathematicians.

National Workshop on the topic ‘Vedic Mathematics’ sponsored by DBT, Govt of India under Star College Scheme on 20th-21st February, 2023. The resource persons was Mr Surinder Bharti Tiwari, Ms Sabia Arora and Mr Varinder Kumar from QMaths, Chandigarh.

Short Term Course on Research Methodology and SPSS, sponsored by DBT, Govt of India under Star College Scheme on 8th October 2022. Resource person was Dr. Harmanpreet Singh Kapoor from Central University of Punjab, Bathinda.

Training Program on Projects, sponsored by DBT, Govt of India under Star College Scheme on 1st October 2022. Dr. Tapas Chatterjee from IIT Ropar act as resourcs person of this training program.

DBT SPONSORED WORKSHOP ON MATLAB PROGRAMMING Organised on 30th September 2022. The resource person of this workshop was Dr. Vikram Mutneja from Shaheed Bhagat Singh State University, Ferozepur.

A Lecture series dedicated to National Mathematics Day sponsored by DBT, Govt of India under Star College Scheme on 8th February, 2023. Resource person Dr. Tania Sidana from IISc, Bengaluru gave students very informative knowledge of Applications of Linear Algebra and Coding Theory. It is very proud moment for the college as Dr. Tania Sidana is our alumni of the college.

The ‘Yoga and Meditation camp to increase concentration in Mathematics’ was organised by the department of Mathematics under the Star college scheme of DBT from 15th to 18th March, 2023 as these ancient techniques have been proven to increase the potential of the young mind by improving their mental focus, problem solving and positive attitude.

PG Dept. of Mathematics organized International Day of Mathematics sponsored by DBT, Govt of India under Star College Scheme on 14th March, 2023.
